India-Korea Electronic Origin Data Exchange System (EODES)
The India-Korea Electronic Origin Data Exchange System (EODES) was launched to facilitate the smooth implementation of the India-Korea Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). This system allows for the electronic exchange of origin information between the customs administrations of India and South Korea, specifically targeting goods traded under CEPA. It includes the electronic sharing of Certificate of Origin data fields, aiming to speed up customs clearance of imported goods. The system was officially launched in New Delhi on December 6, 2023, by officials from the Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs (CBIC) and the Korea Customs Service (KCS). The EODES is expected to enhance trade efficiency, reduce paperwork, and serve as a model for international customs cooperation. However, it also presents challenges such as the need for digital infrastructure, maintaining data quality, and ensuring security and privacy.
