New US Guidelines for International STEM Students

The USCIS has updated guidelines for international STEM students, effective from August 27, 2024. STEM students can now benefit from up to three years of OPT, allowing them more time to gain work experience in the U.S. The new policy also simplifies online course inclusion and school transfers. Students can extend their OPT for 24 months if certain conditions are met, and a 60-day grace period allows for educational progression or potential visa sponsorship. Study abroad program rules and reporting requirements for STEM OPT students have also been clarified to ensure compliance.
