Sacred Ensembles of the Hoysalas

The Sacred Ensembles of the Hoysalas, comprising the Chennakeshava Temple in Belur, the Hoysaleswara Temple in Halebidu, and the Keshava Temple in Somanathapura, were inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2023. Built during the 12th and 13th centuries under the Hoysala Empire in Karnataka, India, these temples exemplify a unique architectural style that blends elements from the Nagara, Dravida, and Bhumija traditions. Renowned for their intricate soapstone carvings and star-shaped platforms, they showcase exceptional craftsmanship and artistic achievement. This recognition underscores their cultural and historical significance, marking them as India’s 42nd UNESCO World Heritage Site.
