Uber Shikara: First Water Transport Service
Uber has launched Uber Shikara, Asia’s first water transport service, on Dal Lake in Jammu and Kashmir. This initiative blends modern technology with the cultural charm of traditional shikara rides. Accessible through the Uber app, it offers advance booking options and adheres to government-regulated pricing. The service currently partners with seven local operators based at Nehru Park, with plans for expansion. Operating daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Uber Shikara aims to enhance the tourist experience while supporting local livelihoods and promoting Kashmir’s cultural heritage.
