Jasleen Kaur Wins Turner Prize
Jasleen Kaur has won the 2024 Turner Prize for her exhibition “Alter Altar,” inspired by her Sikh upbringing in Glasgow. Her work, which includes sculptures and soundscapes, explores spiritual, political, and personal themes. The Turner Prize, organized by Tate Britain, recognizes contemporary British artists. Kaur used her acceptance speech to advocate for pro-Palestinian causes, urging Tate to end ties with donors linked to Israel. The Turner Prize carries a cash award of £25,000 for the winner and is named after the 19th-century painter JMW Turner. Kaur’s activism highlights the role of art in addressing global issues.
