A Global Conference on AI and Energy
The International Energy Agency (IEA) hosted a global conference in Paris on December 4-5, 2023, focusing on AI’s role in the energy sector. The event, attended by leaders from 25 countries and tech giants like Google and Microsoft, highlighted AI’s transformative potential for energy efficiency, innovation, and clean energy transitions. Discussions also addressed the high energy demands of AI technologies, with data centers consuming up to 1% of global electricity. Canada, France, and Korea pledged collaborations with IEA. Innovative tools, such as an AI-driven chatbot for energy insights, were introduced. A key IEA report on AI and energy is slated for release in 2025.
