Google’s Quantum Chip Willow

Google has unveiled Willow, its latest quantum chip that demonstrates the transformative potential of quantum computing. Willow solved the random circuit sampling (RCS) problem in under five minutes, a task that would take the world’s fastest supercomputer, Frontier, 10 septillion years. Quantum computers, using qubits and the principle of superposition, vastly outperform classical computers. Willow features 105 qubits and improved error correction but still faces challenges like high error rates and scalability. Its potential applications span AI, medicine, and energy research, though it raises concerns about encryption security in cryptocurrencies.
