Winter Char Dham Circuit

The Uttarakhand government has launched the Winter Char Dham circuit to boost tourism during off-season months. This initiative allows pilgrims to visit the winter seats of Char Dham deities at lower-altitude shrines, ensuring accessibility despite heavy snowfall. In 2024, Char Dham Yatra attracted over 48 lakh visitors, generating over ₹200 crore daily, though winter pilgrim turnout remains low. While the project aims to bolster regional tourism and the economy, environmentalists have raised concerns about its potential ecological impact. The scheme underscores Uttarakhand’s commitment to sustainable tourism while maintaining the cultural and spiritual significance of Char Dham.
