Global Nutrition Targets – Progress and Challenges

The Global Nutrition Targets (GNTs), established by the World Health Assembly, aim to reduce stunting, anaemia, and childhood overweight by 2030. However, a Lancet evaluation shows slow progress, with most countries unlikely to meet these goals. India’s anaemia prevalence has stagnated over 20 years, underscoring the need for diverse diets and improved metrics for nutritional assessments. Challenges such as childhood stunting and rising overnutrition call for early interventions and balanced energy intake. Comprehensive, data-driven policies focusing on both immediate and long-term nutritional needs are essential for sustainable progress in combating global malnutrition.
