Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) Crashes

On January 5, 2025, an Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) Mark-III of the Indian Coast Guard crashed during a training sortie in Porbandar, Gujarat, resulting in the loss of three lives. This was the second fatal crash involving ALH Mark-III in four months, raising concerns about safety. Investigations are focusing on flying controls and transmission systems, and the entire ALH fleet has been grounded for checks. Designed by HAL, the ALH Dhruv serves as a multi-role helicopter but has faced recurring crashes. Safety audits, modifications, and increased indigenisation aim to address issues, including design flaws and component reliability.
