Advancements in India’s Smart Cities Mission

India’s Smart Cities Mission, launched in 2015, has achieved significant milestones in education and safety through urban development initiatives. Studies by IIM Bangalore under the SAAR – Sameeksha series revealed that 9,433 smart classrooms were implemented across 71 smart cities, benefiting economically weaker sections and increasing student enrolment by 22%. Urban safety was enhanced with 59,802 CCTV cameras and emergency systems in 93 cities, leading to reduced crime rates, notably a 14% decrease in Nagpur. By November 2024, 91% of Smart Cities Mission projects were completed. The mission exemplifies innovative urban models improving infrastructure and quality of life.
