Center Approves Expansion of Agriculture Infrastructure Fund (AIF)
The Agriculture Infrastructure Fund (AIF), launched on July 8, 2020, aims to reduce India’s crop wastage (15-20%) and improve post-harvest infrastructure through public-private partnerships. With ₹1 lakh crore allocated, ₹51,451 crore has been sanctioned and ₹33,724 crore disbursed. Approved projects include warehouses, cold storage facilities, and custom hiring centres. Challenges include a ₹2 crore loan cap, lack of working capital provisions, and administrative delays. Proposed solutions suggest raising loan limits, adding working capital loans, and improving the AIF portal. The initiative is pivotal for reducing crop wastage and fostering private investment in agriculture.
