Chinese Lunar Probe Finds Water Traces in Moon Soil
China’s Chang’e-5 lunar probe discovered small amounts of water in lunar soil and rock samples returned in 2020, as published in Nature Astronomy. This significant finding, achieved through collaboration among multiple Chinese research institutions, enhances our understanding of the Moon’s geology and potential for human habitation. Historical efforts to detect lunar water, such as India’s Chandrayaan-1 mission and NASA’s early research, laid the groundwork for this discovery.
