Digital Personal Data Protection Draft Rules

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has introduced draft rules under the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act, 2023, seeking public feedback by February 18, 2025. These rules address obligations of data fiduciaries, consent management, and children’s data handling while proposing a Data Protection Board for compliance oversight. Data fiduciaries must obtain verified parental consent for children’s data. Consent Managers are mandated to meet financial and operational criteria. The rules allow the State to process data for subsidies under strict conditions. The framework emphasizes transparency and collaboration, ensuring stakeholder contributions shape India’s evolving data protection landscape.
