Discovery of Banded Royal Butterfly

The Banded Royal butterfly (Rachana jalindra indra) was recorded for the first time in Tripura at the Sepahijala Wildlife Sanctuary. This rare species, protected under Schedule II of the Indian Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, is known for its unique bluish-purple sheen in males and white-banded appearance. Found in dense vegetation, its habitats span South and Southeast Asia. This discovery highlights Tripura’s rich biodiversity and the need for continued conservation efforts. Sepahijala Wildlife Sanctuary, home to diverse flora and fauna, including the Clouded Leopard National Park, emphasizes the importance of ecological research and habitat protection.
