Discovery of Pallas’s Cat in India

The discovery of Pallas’s cat (Otocolobus manul) in Himachal Pradesh, India, marks the first photographic evidence of this elusive feline in the region. Native to Central Asia, these small wild cats inhabit high-altitude rocky terrains and are known for their solitary and nocturnal behaviour. They are classified as “Near Threatened” by the IUCN due to habitat loss, prey depletion, and poaching. This finding highlights the biodiversity of the Indian Himalayas and the need to focus on conserving lesser-known species. Conservationists believe this discovery could pave the way for more extensive research and targeted conservation efforts.
