Easterine Kire’s ‘Spirit Nights’ Wins the 2024 Sahitya Akademi Award in English Language

Easterine Kire, a celebrated writer from Nagaland, won the 2024 Sahitya Akademi Award for her novel Spirit Nights, which explores the folklore of the Chang Naga tribe. The Sahitya Akademi announced awards in 21 languages, including Sameer Tanti (Assamese) and Haobam Satyabati Devi (Manipuri). Awardees receive a copper plaque, shawl, and ₹1 lakh, with the ceremony scheduled for March 8, 2025, in Delhi. This prestigious award recognizes literary excellence and promotes regional literature nationally. Kire’s works spotlight Naga culture, inspiring new voices from India’s Northeast.
