ESIC Honoured at Asia-Pacific Forum

Recent research from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), in collaboration with Russian scientists, has highlighted the critical role of Hsp70 (Heat Shock Protein 70) in infections like malaria and COVID-19. This protein facilitates viral entry by interacting with the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein and the human ACE2 receptor, with its activity increasing during fever. Researchers developed a small molecule inhibitor, PES-Cl, that showed promising results in completely inhibiting the virus at low doses. This discovery focuses on targeting host proteins like Hsp70 to combat fast-mutating pathogens, reducing the risk of drug resistance. These findings underscore the importance of innovative solutions for pandemic preparedness and infectious disease management.
