Global Temperature Records and Climate Trends

In 2024, global temperatures reached a historic 1.6°C above pre-industrial levels, crossing the 1.5°C threshold for the first time. The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) warns of intensified climate impacts, driven by El Niño and other factors like reduced sulphur emissions. Although 2025 may not surpass 2024 as the hottest year, temperatures are expected to stay between 1.1°C and 1.4°C above pre-industrial levels. The breach underscores the urgency of addressing climate change, as global emissions rise, jeopardizing 2030 targets. Coordinated global action and stringent climate policies are critical to mitigating long-term risks and achieving sustainable temperature goals.
