ICEGATE and Trade Data Challenges

India’s transition from the SEZ Online System to ICEGATE for trade data management aims to streamline the recording of imports and exports but has encountered accuracy issues. ICEGATE, managed by CBIC, consolidates data from SEZs and other ports. Challenges include double counting due to discrepancies in accounting for goods moving between SEZs and DTAs. SEZs, treated as foreign entities for customs, complicate data compilation. While ICEGATE enhances trade oversight, technical glitches and incomplete migration hinder its effectiveness. Ongoing digital infrastructure upgrades are expected to address these concerns, ensuring accurate trade statistics and improved customs procedures.
