Atal Mission For Rejuvenation And Urban Transformation
Introduction: The Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) is a scheme by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
Objectives:
- Provide access to water supply and sewerage connections for every household.
- Develop green spaces and well-maintained open areas like parks to increase the amenity value of cities.
- Encourage the use of public transport or facilities for non-motorized transport to reduce pollution.

- Water supply
- Sewerage and septage management
- Stormwater drainage
- Non-motorized urban transport
- Green space/parks
Coverage:
- 500 cities have been selected under AMRUT, including all cities and towns with a population of over one lakh with notified municipalities.
- Also includes all capital cities/towns of States/UTs, heritage cities, cities with population above 75,000 and less than 1 lakh on the stem of the main rivers, and 10 cities from hill states, islands, and tourist destinations.
Benefits:
- Capacity building, reform implementation, and development of green spaces and parks.
- Components include water supply, sewerage, septage management, stormwater drainage, and urban transport.
- Indicative inadmissible components include land purchase for projects, staff salaries, power, telecom, health, education, and wage employment programs.
Eligibility:
- There is no eligibility requirement for the AMRUT scheme.
