Indira Gandhi National Disability Pension Scheme (IGNDPS)
Introduction:
The Indira Gandhi National Disability Pension Scheme (IGNDPS) is a sub-scheme of the National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP).
Ministry/Agency:
The scheme is administered by the Ministry of Rural Development.
Objectives:
- Provides social assistance benefits to poor households in the case of death, maternity, or old age of the breadwinner.
- Ensure minimum national standards, in addition to the benefits, the States are currently providing or might provide in the future.
- Ensure uniform social protection to the beneficiaries across the country without interruption.
Benefits:
- A monthly pension of ₹ 200 is provided to the beneficiary.
Eligibility:
- The applicant should be a citizen of India.
- The applicant should be living Below Poverty Line.
- The applicant should be a Person with Disability (PwD).
- The age of applicant should be between 18 to 59 years.
Implementation Strategy:
The scheme is implemented in rural as well as urban areas. It is a demand-driven approach, and the States can develop their own livelihood-based poverty reduction plans. The scheme was expanded in 2007 to cover all eligible persons Below Poverty Line (BPL).
