India Ranks Fifth in Global Generative AI Innovations
India ranks fifth globally in Generative AI (GenAI) innovations, with 1,350 patents from 2014 to 2023, trailing China, the US, Republic of Korea, and Japan. Despite a smaller base, India shows a remarkable 56% annual growth in GenAI patents. Key advancements like transformer models and ChatGPT have spurred patent activity, with GenAI patents rising from 4.2% of all AI patents in 2017 to 6.1% in 2023. India’s strategic initiatives, including the Global IndiaAI Summit, aim to boost its GenAI impact, potentially adding $359-438 billion to GDP by 2030.
