India Unveils First Mountain Tank ‘Zorawar’ After Trials
The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has unveiled India’s first locally-made mountain warfare tank, Zorawar, after successful trials. Developed over three years, Zorawar is designed for high-altitude operations, weighing 25 tonnes and equipped with a Cockerill 3105 turret and anti-tank guided missiles. It is air-transportable, making it suitable for deployment in mountainous regions like Ladakh. The Indian Army plans to deploy 350 units, replacing heavier battle tanks. Named after General Zorawar Singh Kahluria, the tank’s modular design ensures adaptability to evolving combat needs, marking a significant step towards India’s self-reliance in defense technologies.
