Indore Airport: First Zero-Waste Airport

Indore Airport has become India’s first zero-waste airport, inaugurating its waste management system on December 22, 2024. This initiative adheres to the 4R principle—Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Restore—and recycles waste from various sources such as aircraft, shops, and toilets. The airport features a 3,000-square-foot recycling plant, converting wet waste into fertilizer and contributing to a circular economy. Collaborative efforts involving Safai Mitras, Indigo Airlines, the Airport Authority of India, and Indore Municipal Corporation have driven this achievement. This milestone highlights Indore’s leadership in sustainability, aligning with its recognition as India’s cleanest city.
