Is India Making Progress in Environmental Performance Index?
India’s rank in the Environmental Performance Index (EPI) has seen a slight improvement from 180th in 2022 to 176th in 2024. Historically, India’s rank has fluctuated but has generally declined since 2014. Despite improvements in areas like pollution from solid fuels, cleanliness, and drinking water quality, India still faces significant challenges in air quality, ecosystem vitality, and biodiversity. Estonia leads the 2024 EPI, while major countries like the USA, China, and Russia have not reduced their emissions.
