Kalvari Submarine Escape Training Facility – VINETRA
The Kalvari Submarine Escape Training Facility, named Vinetra, was inaugurated on 13 September 2024 by Vice Admiral Rajesh Pendharkar at INS Satavahana in Visakhapatnam. Developed by L&T Defence, Vinetra is designed to train crew members of Kalvari-class submarines for emergency escapes, featuring a 5-meter-high escape tower and a diving basin for realistic underwater training. This facility, part of the Aatmanirbhar Bharat programme, enhances the Indian Navy’s preparedness and self-reliance in defence technology. INS Satavahana, commissioned in 1988, plays a vital role in naval surveillance and represents a link between India’s historical and modern naval strength.
