Mahakumbh 2025 – Prayagraj’s Green Initiative

To prepare for Mahakumbh 2025, Prayagraj has implemented a large-scale greening project using the Miyawaki technique. This method creates dense forests with fast-growing native species, improving air quality and biodiversity. Over 55,800 square meters have been greened across ten locations, including the transformation of the Naini industrial area and a garbage dumping yard into lush forests. Key species include mango, neem, and medicinal plants like amla. These forests reduce pollution, mitigate urban heat, and enhance ecological health. The initiative serves as a sustainable model for urban greening, addressing environmental challenges and enriching the city’s landscape for residents and visitors.
