Masali: India’s First Border Solar Village Established

Masali, in Suigam taluka of Banaskantha, Gujarat, is India’s first solar-powered border village, benefiting 800 residents with renewable energy. Part of the Border Development Project, this initiative received funding of ₹1.16 crore, including subsidies from the PM Suryaghar Yojana, CSR contributions, and public donations. Equipped with 225.5 kilowatts of energy across 119 homes, the village now surpasses its energy needs, eliminating electricity bills. Managed by Uttar Gujarat Vij Company Limited (UGVCL), the project underscores renewable energy’s potential in remote areas and builds on Gujarat’s solar advancements, with Masali being the second solar village after Modhera.
