Mount Ibu Eruption

Mount Ibu in North Maluku, Indonesia, erupted recently, releasing ash clouds up to 3 km high. Authorities issued an orange-level Volcano Observatory Notice for Aviation (VONA), warning of potential air travel disruptions. The eruption extended the danger zone to 5.5 km, with a 4 km exclusion radius around the crater. Mount Ibu, part of Indonesia’s Pacific Ring of Fire, is among the nation’s most active volcanoes, recording over 21,000 eruptions in 2023. The eruption highlights the region’s geological volatility while emphasizing the need for stringent safety measures for nearby communities and air travel amidst ongoing volcanic activity.
