Nagar Van Yojana Surpasses Target
Launched in 2020, the Nagar Van Yojana (NVY) aims to increase greenery in urban areas across India. The initiative exceeded its target by creating 111 urban forests, known as Nagar Vans, in six states and one union territory within the first 100 days. With a goal of establishing 1,000 Nagar Vans by 2027, the project promotes biodiversity, community participation, and environmental education. The government provides Rs. 4 lakh per hectare for each forest, which covers areas between 10 to 50 hectares. Supported by CAMPA, NVY addresses climate change, air quality, and habitat loss in cities.
