NASA Studies New X-ray Binary System
NASA’s Imaging X-ray Polarimetry Explorer (IXPE) recently studied Swift J1727, an X-ray binary system comprising a black hole and a companion star. This system formed when one star underwent a supernova, collapsing into a black hole that draws material from its companion. The material forms an accretion disc, producing intense heat and emitting X-rays. IXPE enables researchers to analyze such phenomena, shedding light on black hole behaviors. Findings have been published in leading journals, contributing to our understanding of these extreme cosmic environments.
