National Mathematics Day – December 22

National Mathematics Day, observed annually on December 22, commemorates Srinivasa Ramanujan’s birth and his remarkable contributions to mathematics, such as number theory and infinite series. Initiated in 2012 to mark his 125th birth anniversary, the day promotes mathematics’ role in innovation, education, and scientific advancement. Ramanujan’s discoveries, including the famous Hardy-Ramanujan number (1729) and mock theta functions, have influenced modern mathematics. The 2024 theme, “Mathematics – A bridge to innovation,” highlights its importance in technology, engineering, and economics. Events across schools encourage critical thinking and showcase the relevance of mathematics in everyday life.
