New Damselfish Species Discovered
Researchers recently identified Chromis abadhah, a new damselfish species, in the mesophotic zones of the Indian Ocean near the Maldives. Published in ZooKeys, the discovery highlights the ecological importance of deep-sea coral reefs, which remain largely unexplored. The species exhibits a unique two-tone coloration for camouflage and inhabits reef crevices near sponges. The study emphasizes the need for conservation of deep-sea habitats threatened by human activities.
