One-Horned Rhinos and Climate Change Vulnerability (2024)

The 2024 State of Rhino Report reveals that the Greater One-Horned Rhino, also known as the Indian Rhino, is highly vulnerable to climate change, poaching, and habitat loss. Despite conservation efforts raising its population to about 4,014, it remains classified as Vulnerable by the IUCN. Poaching rates have increased by 4% in Africa, affecting rhino populations, especially in Namibia and South African parks. The Greater One-Horned Rhino, primarily found in India and Nepal, faces threats from changing monsoon patterns and human conflicts. Strengthening anti-poaching efforts, managing habitats, and community involvement are crucial for its survival.
