Parliament Committee’s Recommendations for Farm Workers’ Welfare

The Standing Committee on Agriculture, chaired by Charanjit Singh Channi, has proposed key reforms for farm workers’ welfare in India. It suggests renaming the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare to include farm labourers, recognizing their contributions. A National Commission for Minimum Living Wages for Farm Labourers is recommended to ensure fair wages. The report highlights declining budget allocations for agriculture, urging increased funding. It also calls for an MSP for organic crops and a free crop insurance scheme for small farmers. These measures aim to promote equity, financial stability, and sustainable farming in India’s agricultural sector.
