PM POSHAN Scheme
The PM POSHAN Scheme provides daily hot cooked meals to 11.7 crore children across 10.24 lakh government and aided schools, including Balvatika and grades I-VIII. To account for inflation, the Labour Bureau tracks costs using CPI-RL data. A recent 13.7% hike in material costs will increase meal allocations to Rs 6.19 for primary classes and Rs 9.29 for upper primary classes. The government supplies 26 lakh metric tonnes of subsidized food grains annually through the Food Corporation of India. States can supplement funds for enhanced nutrition. The scheme aims to improve nutrition, attendance, and student outcomes.
