Rare Imperial Eagle Spotted in Kerala Wetlands
A rare imperial eagle (Aquila heliaca) was spotted in Kerala’s Pulluzhi Kole wetlands, marking its first sighting since 2003. These wetlands, a Ramsar-protected site, host various endangered eagles like the spotted and steppe eagles. Known for birdwatching, the Kole fields emphasize conservation, guided by the Kole Birders Collective. With the imperial eagle classified as endangered by IUCN, its sighting underscores the need for habitat protection and highlights the region’s ecological importance.
