Sri Lanka’s Visa-Free Policy

Sri Lanka announced a visa-free travel policy for citizens of 39 countries, including India, effective January 2025. This initiative aims to boost tourism and strengthen bilateral relations. The announcement was made during Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath’s visit to New Delhi, coinciding with Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s state visit. India is Sri Lanka’s largest tourist source, and the policy is expected to enhance economic ties, cultural exchanges, and tourism revenue. Sri Lanka expressed hopes for reciprocal visa-free access for its citizens. This policy signifies deepening India-Sri Lanka relations amid shared cultural and economic interests.
