Subabul Seedpods for Diabetes Management
Subabul seedpods, from the plant Leucaena leucocephala, have shown potential in managing insulin resistance linked to type II diabetes. Researchers from the Institute of Advanced Studies in Science and Technology (IASST), Guwahati, identified quercetin-3-glucoside as a key compound that enhances insulin sensitivity by activating the Sirtuin 1 (SIRT1) enzyme, vital for glucose metabolism. This traditional medicinal plant, used historically for its nutritional benefits, now opens pathways for developing natural diabetes treatments. The findings, published in ACS Omega, highlight Subabul’s potential for creating therapeutic strategies while validating its traditional medicinal uses.
