Support Centres for Indian Women Abroad
The Ministry of External Affairs has initiated the establishment of nine One-Stop Centres (OSCs) globally to support Indian women in distress abroad. Seven centres will be located in Gulf countries like Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and the UAE, while Toronto and Singapore will host the remaining two. These OSCs will provide immediate assistance, including legal aid, counselling, and temporary housing. The initiative is funded by the Indian Community Welfare Fund (ICWF), which was expanded in 2017 to address emergency needs for Indian nationals abroad, including women abandoned by their spouses. The centres aim to ensure better safety, legal support, and welfare for Indian women globally.
