Uttarakhand Forest Department Establishes Mahabharata Vatika

The Uttarakhand Forest Department has developed two thematic gardens, Mahabharata Vatika and Ramayana Vatika, in Haldwani. These gardens exhibit plant species mentioned in ancient Indian epics, promoting ecological wisdom and cultural heritage. Mahabharata Vatika spans one acre, featuring 37 species like Peepal, Bargad, and Dhak, while Ramayana Vatika showcases 70 species connected to Lord Rama’s journey, including forests like Chitrakoot and Panchavati. The initiative emphasizes the spiritual and ecological significance of tree planting and conservation, drawing lessons from texts like Vana Parva in the Mahabharata, which highlights the mutual dependence of tigers and forests.
